What do Scouts do?

Scouts take part in a wide variety of activities, from abseiling to zorbing.

The aim of Scouting is to develop young people to their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. We achieve this by delivering a Balanced Programme. This programme helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit, and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.

Being outdoors is important in Scouts, and a large part of our programme is in traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, hiking, map reading, survival skills and cooking

There are a huge number of badges and awards in Scouts, and we are constantly working towards one badge or another. However there are a huge number of badges which the Scouts work towards in their own time and the most determined Scout can easily have an armful within a year!

Scouts

Scouts is for boys and girls aged between 10½ to 14.

Look up adventure in the dictionary and you’ll find Scouts abseiling off the page. We’re the original mud splattered, outdoor adventurers and we’re still going strong. If you’re aged 10 to 14 and enjoy trying new activities, learning skills and making friends, you’ll like what we do.

How are Scouts organised?

A group of Scouts aged between 10½ and 14 are called a Troop. Within this Troop there are smaller groups called Patrols, each headed by a Patrol Leader and supported by an Assistant Patrol Leader.
